Once again, let me congratulate the seniors who had an opportunity to sign their Letters of Intent on Wednesday to secure a spot at their future college. I hope that this site helped open doors that would not have been there if you had not done it yourself. This is an important thing and the reason why this site was started.
But now the ball is being handed off to the juniors. Those in the Class of 2012 are now on the clock and it is up to you to prove to these coaches that you are a scholarship worthy athlete. This process will be extremely frustrating, stressful, and difficult for everyone involved (this includes mom, dad, athlete, and likely siblings too). You likely will never know what a college coach thinks about you unless they offer you a scholarship. But if you follow the advice of this site and have some talent, getting a scholarship really is something that could very well happen for you.
Although I have stressed the importance to market yourself to college coaches, now is by far the best time for juniors to get your information in the hands of college coaches. Follow The Five Steps to a Scholarship Offer and get going if you have not done so already. The hope is that you have already done steps #1 and #2 so marketing your information to coaches is what you need to be working on.

Before this, nearly every college staff has been busy trying to finalize their recruiting class for seniors. There may be a few players still left on the board and a couple of walk-ons to add but their focus will quickly switch over to the Class of 2012. College coaches are paid a great sum of money and they will do what they can to continue finding the top prospects in the upcoming class.
So juniors, it really is now your time to shine. The focus is coming for you and the rest of the winter is an excellent opportunity to prove to these coaches that at the very least you have the skills to be evaluated at that level. So what is the best way to get evaluated and get your name into their recruiting database?
It is the third step in the journey for a scholarship; market yourself to these coaches. Include your recruiting profile and links to your website and highlight video (if available). Tell them why you have followed this program and hope to play there eventually in the email. Expect them to invite you to their camp (which is something to not take all that seriously) but if they do that, at the very least you are on their radar.
What does make this time frame tough overall is that you really won’t know what college coaches are serious about you as a recruit until April and May when they can legally call you. I have had football recruits tell me that certain schools are calling and that is a flat out lie. These coaches are savvy enough to know that making calls will get them in a great deal of trouble. So don’t expect more than letters and potentially invites to Junior Days.
Even if you are starting the recruiting process today, your family is not behind at all. Get your information together, send it out to college coaches, and track their responses. Broaden your search and see what can happen over the next twelve months. And don’t forget to enjoy the ups and downs of the journey overall.
